Lack of Hope

2006, Almere, Holland

with the support of Corrosia Art and Cultural Center, curated by Renee Reijnders

material: 80 pieces of dried real bird wings, transparent plastic, black thread Dimensions:1100 cm x 250 cm x 500 cm of plastic layer, turning machines, video (duration: 2’ 06’’

Wings symbolize unlimited freedom but a single wing is desperate, you can only turn around. Human beings have experienced different ways of being stocked somewhere.  In this work, a single wing symbolizes the "lack of hope". To sew a wing to a transparent sheet wants to tell the invisible reasons for being stocked in a location.

The name of the exhibition was “Almere-Istanbul“; the relationship was built through these immigrant birds who even traveled through these cities every year.
